Innovation & Engagement

The School’s third mission is Innovation and Engagement, and an important part of life in the School.

Innovation and Engagement activities throughout the School are co-ordinated by the  Institute of Translation, Innovation Methodologies & Engagement .

Taking part in the wider world

Innovation and Engagement involves reaching beyond the traditional academic domains of teaching and research to the wider world.

This way, valuable knowledge and expertise within the School can be directly involved in and benefit public decision-making, industrial development and the local, national and international community.

In turn, the School’s Innovation and Engagement activities benefit teaching and research, bringing in expertise from beyond the School, and helping ensure that its academic activities find meaning in the context of the wider world.

Activities

Innovation and Engagement works at all levels within the School. Examples of these activities include:

  • large, high-value collaborations with industrial partners
  • the work our academics do with public health bodies
  • the numerous regular events the School holds for the public
  • campaigns to raise funds or awareness for health-related projects

Students as well as staff contribute to Innovation and Engagement, for example helping host events for visiting school pupils, and volunteering to support charitable and educational projects the School is involved in.

Students and staff took part in the 2010 Go Africa! events to raise money for the Mothers of Africa charity, which works to improve healthcare for mothers and children in Liberia.
