Clinical and Policy Leadership

The Cochrane Institute of Primary Care and Public Health aims to:

    • Provide expertise in primary care, public health and research methods to support School of Medicine strategy.
    • Maintain strong engagement with Welsh Government Health Policy, Health Boards and Public Health Wales delivery.
    • Maintain representation on Faculty of Public Health HoDs group and HoDs for Society for Academic Primary Care.
    • Win research funding for at least one policy relevant research study per year.

Working to show clinical and policy leadership for both primary care and public health in Wales is a key role of Institute of Primary Care and Public Health. Major elements of our research are focussed in high impact areas for both policy and clinical practice.

The work led by Prof Laurence Moore around evaluations of Public Health Policy is highly rated both in terms of academic outputs and policy impact, whilst the Healthcare Improvement Unit led by Prof Stephen Palmer and Dr Sharon Mayor and Child Protection Group led by Prof Alison Kemp similarly combine academic excellence and health service policy impact.

These groups show the importance for both research and practice of close links to the policy makers in the Welsh Government as well as Health Boards and Public Health Wales. Outside of Wales, the Institute aims to maintain strong links to the relevant royal colleges as well as the Society for Academic Primary Care.
