Welcome to the home page of the Institute of Molecular and Experimental Medicine (IMEM), one of the 5 Research Institutes in Cardiff University's School of Medicine.
The Institute comprises mutually synergistic high quality research teams focussed on addressing overlapping issues in cardiorespiratory, metabolic and inflammatory disorders by means of state-of-the-art translational medicine studies underpinned by excellent basic science.
About IMEM
Led by Prof Colin Dayan, IMEM consists of 6 multidisciplinary research groups and 7 clinical academic departments. IMEM hosts more than 30 Principal Investigators, including 14 Professors and has more than 70 research students undertaking higher degrees.

Clinical Departments
IMEM hosts the academic clinical Departments of Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Nephrology, Pharmacology, Child Health, Medical Biochemistry and Radiology who have responsibility for teaching and supporting clinical services in their specialist areas.
Clinical Trials
IMEM conducts a large number of clinical trials focussing on translation of scientific knowledge to clinical care. These include first-in-man phase 1 and phase 2 'proof of concept' studies.
