Cardiff University has been named as the first Centre of Excellence by the charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, a part of the charity's plans to focus its investment in leading research institutions.  They have invested over £1million at the University looking at acute myeloid leukaemia and chronic lymphocyte leukaemia.

A plaque was erected in the School of Medicine to mark the work undertaken here as a Centre of Excellence.  Research scientists and patients gathered to hear Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive of LLR and Dr David Grant, Scientic Director of the charity give their continued support to the work of the Haematology department.

Alan Burnett, Professor of Haematology explained how important it was for scientists working here to receive this encouragement in their future work in the disease.
