Research themes

Research focuses upon common psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. It is organised around 7 major themes.

  • Psychosis and Major Affective Disorders
    Our work aims to understand the genetic and environmental factors that involved in the major psychotic and mood disorders (including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression).
  • Neurodegenerative Disorders
    Our aims are to understand some of the causes of different forms of neurodegeneraton including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s diseases and multiple sclerosis.
  • Developmental Disorders
    Our research encompasses genetics, epidemiological and clinical translational research on childhood-onset psychiatric and developmental disorders.
  • Genetic models
    Our work aims to uncover the roles of specific genes in human behaviour and brain function.
  • Biostatistics & Bioinformatics Unit
    Our work focuses on the analysis of large volumes of biological data to help understand the causes of mental-health related diseases.
  • National Centre for Mental Health
