Headed by Prof Robert Mansel, MS, FRCS, CBE, the Section of Surgery consists of a number groups working in specific areas of research and educational initiatives and has a staff compliment of around 70.

- Breast diseases, both benign and malignant
- Urological cancers, primarily prostate cancer

Teaching
Members of the Section of Surgery are involved with teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. They also work closely with their NHS colleagues who are vital to fulfilling this commitment to teaching.
The undergraduate course is an integrated curriculum which is based around the teaching of subject panels. Clinical experience, however, starts from Year 1 and occurs at a number of different points throughout the course.
