Our objectives in this area are:
- Train clinicians and disseminate the results of ground breaking ALMANAC study in breast cancer which established the key role of sentinel node biopsy in the treatment of breast cancer.
Prof Robert Mansel,
- Continue to develop and run a world class clinical trials unit to support clinicians and investigators from any cancer area in the UK organising clinical trials, from the basic idea, to producing reliable evidence to chance practice.
Mr Gareth Griffiths and Wales Cancer Trials Unit
- Investigate the management of venous thromboembolism in advanced cancer and the anticancer effects of heparins.
Dr Simon Noble, Department of Pharmacology
- For breast cancer, to refine sentinel node analysis, to develop more powerful molecular markers of prognosis based on expression profiling, and to take out anti-HGF and anti-angiogenesis agents into early-phase clinical trials.
Prof Wen Jiang and Mr Amit Goyal,
- Conduct biomarker analysis in breast and colorectal cancer.
Prof Bharat Jasani, Prof Jeremy Cheadle and Prof Tim Maughan
- Investigate the responsiveness and resistance to Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor blockade in colorectal cancer.
Dr Richard Adams, Department of Pharmacology
- Investigate the prevalence HPV infection in screening population South Wales and the epidemology of HPV in cervical cancer.
Prof Alison Fiander, HPV Research Group
- Build on our strengths in phase 3 trials for solid tumours and the success of the Wales Cancer Trials Network to lead more national/international trials from Cardiff.
